Day 363: Bojangles, Bentonville, AR

July 26th, 2008 § 0

The kids are coming home today, so we met Mimi (and Jonah) in Bentonville to pick them up.

Day 363

Brandon says Bojangles is better than Popeye’s. It’s definitely better than KFC.

Boys Knit, Too

July 21st, 2008 § 0

I taught Brae to knit the same evening as Hannah, and he’s been working on a security blanket for one of the animals at the Human Society as part of a project that Kaity set up for the Bookworms Kids at the library (one of the requirements for her Girl Scout Silver Award).

The blankets will be donated to our local animal shelter in cooperation with the Snuggles Project.

The Snuggles Project was founded by our president and founder, Rae French, in 1996 because of her heartfelt need to do something for the innocent victims who find themselves in animal shelters without a bit of comfort to call their own. Picturing them in their hard cold cells made her heart ache to do something to help. So she got the idea of security blankets for shelter animals. The security blankets are called “Snuggles.” Each animal would get a Snuggle to cuddle up with to feel warmth and comfort. Most shelter animals are kept in areas with stainless steel braces and hard plastic flooring or even bare concrete floors. The Snuggles would allow them to have a little reprieve from the coldness of the pen they are kept in.

Brae’s been knitting off and on for a couple of weeks, starting with some needles I inherited from Granny. A quick trip to the Yarn Barn, and he now has his own pair of hardwood Brittany needles (and some variegated blue yarn for his stash).

When we went to Kaity’s final performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he took his knitting to the park to work on while he watched the play.

After the performance, two of the actresses (both Kaity’s age), made a point to tell Brae that he was cool because he could knit. How’s that for incentive?

Day 351: Off to Arkansas

July 14th, 2008 § 0

Dee and CJ took Brae and Hannah back to Arkansas for a two week vacation, saving us the 8 hour drive there and back.  We miss them already, but the kids will have a great time hanging out with cousins, going to the water park, playing video games, and being fawned over by various family members.
